Problem:
When dialing up, the modem makes a connection handshake but then suddenly brings up a dial
up prompt which reads,
"The computer you are attempting to connect to is not responding."
Try the following:
Open up "My Computer" on your desktop. (You may have renamed it).
Open up your dial-up networking folder.
Find your SolidWeb Dialup entry in the dial-up folder.
Right click it and select "Properties", (You can also highlight it, and then
select File then Properties off the menus above.)
You should see a field with the dial-up phone number in it. (I.E. 205-5500 for Portland
users)
Add a few commas onto the end of the number. So if you were a Portland user, the number
would now read "205-5500,,,"
What's the cause?
Some modems, such as Practical Peripheral 33.6 laptop modems are "thrown off" by
the 56k Flex tones on our end. The commas at the end of the number tell your modem to
pause for a few seconds. We've found that this works wonders. =)
And remember, if this doesn't work, please call us. We're more than willing to give you a
hand!
